The Langley Oaks Homeowners Association

Langley Oaks is a very peaceful and quiet neighborhood located immediately west of Langley High School, north of Georgetown Pike and south of the George Washington Parkway in McLean, Virginia. It is almost equidistant from the I-495 Beltway to the west and the CIA to the east. The Potomac River is two thousand feet to the north through nicely-wooded parkland belonging to Fairfax County. Virtually all of its three hundred and ten single-family homes were built on half-acre lots between 1975 and 1985.

The Langley Oaks Homeowners Association (LOHA) was established on 21 Dec 1976 and is duly registered with the Commonwealth of Virginia. Participation in the Association is mandatory for all property owners. Each homeowner has a legal obligation to abide by all its documents and requirements and to pay the modest annual assessment in February. The “Documents” tab at the left provides access to these documents.

The Association is governed by a Board of nine neighbors who volunteer their time and are elected by the general membership to serve staggered three-year terms. Quarterly Board meetings are held in March, June, September and December and are always open to all Langley Oaks property owners and residents. The Annual General Membership meeting is held in early to mid-February. The “Members Area” tab at the left provides access to the Minutes of recent Quarterly Board and Annual General Membership meetings.

The Board of Directors determines the annual, mandatory dues amount each December for the coming up year. The monies collected make possible such things as maintaining the front entrance area, maintaining this website, supporting neighborhood activities and events, and snow-plowing the streets. The “Members Area” tab at the left provides access to the current Budget, recent Annual Financial Statements and the most recent Audit Report.

The Langley Oaks website is authorized, maintained and updated by the Board of Directors. The Board hopes that you will find it helpful and informative. Questions, comments or suggestions for improvement should be sent to the President or Secretary (see the Contacts tab). LOHA is always looking for volunteers to serve on the Board or help in a variety of activities.

Fairfax County

Fairfax County covers an area of 395 square miles and has a population of 1.1 million people which is greater than the population of seven states.  It’s budget is larger than four states.
The Fairfax County Police Department has over 1,300 sworn officers and a national reputation for innovation, in-service training and a low tolerance for crime.  It is the 33rd largest police district in the country.  Similarly, the County has some of the finest public schools in the Commonwealth and its school system is also nationally recognized for excellence.  It is the 11th largest school district in the Country.  The proposed school budget for FY13 is two point four billion dollars.

Langley Oaks is located in the public school district that includes Churchill Road Elementary School, Cooper Middle School and Langley High School.  In addition, there are several very good private schools in the area to include Country Day School, The Langley School, The Madeira School, McLean Montessori, Potomac School, and Saint Luke’s Catholic School.

Fairfax County has an elected Board of Supervisors consisting of nine members elected by district, plus a Chairperson elected at large.  Langley Oaks is located in the Dranesville District which is in the northwest section of the County.  For many years, the Dranesville Supervisor and the McLean District Police Station have been co-located in the Government Center building at 1437 Balls Hill Road in McLean.  However, starting in the spring of 2012 this government center is undergoing a major renovation and the Supervisor’s Office has been temporarily relocated to 6649-A Old Dominion Drive in the McLean Square Shopping Center (also known as the Balducci’s Shopping Center).

Langley Oaks is also proud to be associated with several local groups including the venerable McLean Citizens Association which was established in 1914.  A Board member has been designated as the LOHA liaison to the MCA every year for more than a quarter century.
